Things to See & Do Around Chateau Solace
Chateau Solace sits between mountains, winding rivers, dense nature, and historic sights. If you have some plans in mind, or open to trying something new, you will most definitely find something to enjoy while staying here.
Winery & Brewery Tour
Virginia is known to have a speckling of wineries and breweries all throughout. Sip on delectable wine, eat delicious food, and enjoy scenic views. Some nearby wineries to check out are Glen Manor Vineyards, Rappahanock Cellars, Honey & Hops Brew Works, and Chester Gap Cellars. Even the twenty minute drive will be something to marvel at.
Shenandoah River Float
Pack your swimsuits and coolers and choose your outfitter: we are close to Shenandoah River Company (tell Margaret we sent you) or head over the bridge to the Downriver Canoe center. Both have tubes, kayaks, or rafts and will drive you to the top of the river to enjoy a three hour float back down stream. Sit back, relax, enjoy the view and have a refreshing swim. You can pay and book your float ahead of time to reserve your spot. Consider ATV rentals at Appalachian Adventures as well.
Waterfall Pools
About a half an hour drive from Chateau Solace, you can take a beautiful walk through nature for 45 minutes until you greet yourself to Seven Waterfall Pools via Thompson's Trail Head. Enjoy taking a dip in each of the pools and jumping from the low rock formations. Parental supervision highly recommended for younger children.
Caverns
Caverns are amazing underground rock formations to schedule a tour and dive deep within to check out. Both the Skyline Caverns and Luray Caverns are about a half an hour drive away from Chateau Solace. Expect spending at least two hours at the caverns with lots of walking and visuals for taking pictures.
The Historic Town of Front Royal
Explore the town of Front Royal with mouth watering food & drink excursions, informative museums, estate's, thrift stores, bookshops, flea markets, galleries and much more. Checkout discoverfrontroyal.com to see what events are happening at the time of your visit. The town is only about a twenty minute drive away from Chateau Solace. It will at least be a pit stop for your grocery shopping!
Lake Arrowhead Park
Beautiful, scenic lake with hills and dense trees. Lake Arrowhead Park is great for kids with a sandy beach and swimming area, picnic tables, and available kayaks. There are hiking trails that take you exploring around the area with some good spots for fishing as well. Great for a day trip. About a thirty minute drive from Chateau Solace.
Tuscarora Trail and other hikes
The Tuscarora trail is nearby to Chateau Solace with only about a 15 minute walk taking a right turn out of the driveway. The entrance to this trail will again be on the right side of Panhandle road. There is a post blocking cars from driving onto the trail. You will see a trail sign and a beautiful path ahead which leads straight into the forest. Other nearby hikes include Buzzard Rock, Shawl Gap and Sherman's gap.
